WHAT: genuineHI hosts The Next Movement, an art/music/fashion event that happens every last Saturday of the month at Next Door in Chinatown. The January edition will feature a live hip-hop performance by The Perfect Median and electronic sets by special guest Coppe from Tokyo, live painting by artist Ryan Greenly, a fashion show featuring Leah Evans, Urban Nomad, and Catherine’s Closet, with DJs Mr. Nick and Cookiehead Jenkins. This event will be the launch party for DISfunkshion Magazine, Hawaii’s hottest new art and fashion publication catering to globally-minded creative women. DISfunkshion Magazine will be available bi-monthly where all fine publications are sold across the state for $4.99. The first issue will be available in stores on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, with an estimated readership of 10,000 for the first issue. Printed on high-quality 100 pound weight matted cover and 80 pound weight pages, it will feature homegrown fashion designers, musicians, and artists while raising awareness about local and international social issues, presenting all of it in an artistic aesthetic with edgy photography and thoughtful articles.
